Improving Focus for Student-Athletes

In a world of ever-shortening attention spans, gaining and maintaining focus has become increasingly more difficult. Student-athletes face these challenges in school, at home, and while competing in their sport. The Eyes on the Prize workshop will lead student-athletes through the foundational elements of focus. The session will begin with an introductory focus activity. Next, together with A.L.L. In staff, student-athletes will analyze the difference between prime and poor focus, identify their focus style, and explore ways to improve focus.

Student-Athletes as Teammates, Competitors, & Leaders

Being a ‘Triple Threat’ has different meanings in different athletic contexts. At “A.L.L. In” a ‘Triple Threat’ student-athlete is a fierce yet fair competitor, a reliable and trustworthy teammate, and a courageous leader. This series of workshops feature a team-building activity that allows student-athletes to compete, lead, and work together. This is followed by an interactive discussion highlighting why ‘Triple Threat’ student-athletes will be successful in their sport and in life.

Developing a Growth Mindset in Student-Athletes

Mindset can influence our ability to learn, grow, and achieve our goals. Each day we are faced with endless decisions that allow us to choose a growth or fixed mindset. All of the research depicts how a growth mindset can help us to learn, grow, and get better. This workshop will assess the student-athletes current mind-set, and guide them through strategies for developing a growth mindset.

Building Emotional Intelligence for Student Athletes

Did you ever wonder how elite athletes are able to perform at their best when their best is needed? The key is in understanding and controlling your emotions. Fortunately, emotional intelligence is a skill and it can be developed. This workshop will examine the components of emotional intelligence critical for leaders. Student-Athletes will begin by measuring their own emotional intelligence. They will then discuss and apply the six core competencies of Daniel Goleman’s 4 Quadrant Model to sport and life.

Your Brain at Work

Creating a Mindset of Service Among Student-Athletes

Service learning actively engages participants in meaningful service activities. This 2 - part workshop will first lead student-athletes through the elements of effective service learning as well as the planning and development of a service learning project. Next, student-athletes and A.L.L. In staff will collaborate on the successful implementation of the project. All participants will receive service credit for the execution of the project. .

Executive Functioning Skills for Student-Athletes

Scientists refer to executive functioning skills as a set of skills that relies on three types of brain function: working memory, mental flexibility, and self-control. Children are not born with these skills - they are born with the potential to develop them. A.L.L In’s staff work will work with your student-athletes in one or all of the areas listed above. Our interactive and engaging workshop will give student-athletes the opportunity to assess their current capacity in those areas, improving upon their weaknesses and building on their strengths. The Harvard University Center for the Developing Child states that development of these skills can have positive effects on academic achievement, behaviors, health, and future employability.
